The waiting

As usual, the break I am welcoming with open arms, but the waiting to play hockey again is the hardest part. Only playing 1 game in the next week and a half is already starting to concern me a little bit. I don’t want to come back rusty. I can’t afford to come back rusty with my roller teams needing me to be focused and to come up with timely saves.

The extra day off this week is going to make for a nice relaxing holiday weekend thats for sure. Come Tuesday though, I will miss playing hockey.

Standing pat, advancing, and falling

This week the Builders tied against the top team in the league on Tuesday night pushing them into 4th place in the division. Going down 4-2 with 6 minutes left, the Builders tied the game and then in OT neither team could score. A few notes from this game though. First, the other team passed it around us like we were standing still. We need to improve our passing game. Our next game will be a major test as well because it is against the Black Dragons, a team in 2nd place right now with probably the best goalie in the league.

Dekleine Builders is having a tough time in Brass with a 7-3 loss last night. I didn’t have one of my better games but even if I had a great game, we may have only tied that game. The other team just had more than we did and we couldn’t take advantage of our chances. The good news is that we are playing hard and I still have faith in this team over the long haul.

My ice hockey team advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs with a dominating 8-3 victory. Next game is next week on Wednesday.

Which reminds me, I have next week off of rollerhockey. My Sunday team doesn’t play for the next 2 weeks. So I am going to play a total of 1 game in the next 2 weeks. Just one game and that will be my ice hockey playoff game. Talk about a bummer. The rest may do me good though. It will allow me to do other things like spend time with the wife, play some World of Warcraft, and relax.

It never pays to relax

Howie’s was down 7-3 with 6 minutes left in the game last night and STILL won. After a fantastic first period where we led 3-1, I thought that we would pull off the win. They scored 5 in the 2nd period and my confidence waivered. Just seemed like I couldn’t make a good save in that 2nd period.

With us down by 4 goals, I thought it was over. So did the other team who was all smiles and laid back. We scored right away, and then scored 4 more in the final 3 minutes of the game to win it. The last goal coming with less than 10 seconds left. I just couldn’t believe it.

It just gets harder for Howie’s Hockey Tape now though. We have 2 weeks off, and then have a double header against the two top teams in the league before we start playoffs.

As a member of Restitution and back when I was level 60, we tried to beat C’Thun who was a tough as hell boss in AQ40. Well, we finally took him down, about a year and a half later as level 70s. Taking that thing out in one try was pretty darn satisfying thats for sure.

I don’t mean to complain

My week has been pretty good overall. All my teams won their games, but I have to complain about a few things. The first being my right leg, which has been sore and stiff for the past 2 days. I stretch it out every day, but just walking around is slightly painful. Imagine playing in goal on it.

Another concerning issue is that I have been tiring a lot easier than I have in the past. Maybe it is because of the heat playing Rollerhockey as I don’t have this problem playing in the air conditioned roller rink up north or ice hockey for that matter. Still, its concerning me a bit.

I am really looking forward to 3 days off with no hockey. My leg needs some time to heal and I am just physically tired after my game last night.

In respects to my games, while I have won all of them this week, my concern is that none of my teams are playing to their full potential. In about 8 weeks, come playoff time, playing to your full potential is going to be key. Playing hungry and wanting to win the game more than your opposition is key. I am going to try to bring out a little of that in my teams in the coming weeks.

Rollerhockey hasn’t been kind to me as I have now dropped my last 3 straight games. My last two losses were with the Builders and with Dekleine Builders. The Builders game we should have had, while Dekleine was a lopsided 6-2 affair where I just didn’t have many good bounces go my way. 2 goals alone were off of me and into the net which is quite annoying to say the least.

At least my ice hockey team is doing ok as we won 5-2 last night. Course, we played the last place team which means that we are up for a fight when we start playoffs in a few weeks.

Last night after I lost with Dekleine, I was starting to feel disappointed in my effort. The simple fact of the matter is that I didn’t come up with a great game in any of my hockey games. Unfortunately, when the game is on the line, a big game is what I need to come up with. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out like that though.

I need to stay focused on the goal at hand, which is to make playoffs. Howies will make it, Dekleine should make it into 3rd place, and the Builders should make it. I just need a chance to win on Saturday. Thats all I need.

I had a pretty good game last night, but I have to take my hat off to the opposing goaltender I played against, Woot. He was on fire last night, and every shot was finding his glove or his body as he dove across the crease for multiple saves. Me on the other hand was struggling just to make saves off odd man rushes.

It was just one of those games I really couldn’t complain about too much. My team was just held in check and couldn’t find the back of the net in the 3rd period. In the meantime, they took advantage of their chances and buried the puck at every opportunity. I had a couple good saves, but there was a difference between my play and Woot’s play thats for sure.

My last few games

I had a very successful week in hockey this week.

The Builders got off the ground with a win on Tuesday. After falling down 3-1, we came back and won 9-4. The team we played only had 6 guys while we had 9. The opposing team was just exhausted by the middle of the 1st period and we were just hitting our stride. We will have tougher tests thats for sure.

Dekleine Builders had a 4-2 lead, but lost 6-4. If there was any game I wanted this week, it was this one. Maly’s, the team that beat us, was short on guys as well and they were missing their stronger skaters. Dekleine just ran out of steam and couldn’t keep up with the offense that Malys had. I had a couple goals that got through me that I should have had and some rebounds that I should have covered. Wins are going to come at a premium and I feel this game got away from us. Especially with a 2 goal lead going into the 3rd period.

The Kodiacs won 6-2 as well which helps their playoff seeding with just one game to go before playoffs. Our playoff success is going to ride on me playing my best game for 3 straight weeks thats for sure.

Last night I subbed in for Spectrum Health and lost 6-3, but I was very proud of my play. Spectrum hasn’t won a game this season, and I was stopping shots left and right. The ones that did beat me weren’t weak goals thats for sure, and I made my fair share of huge saves. I also got a few lucky bounces, but hey, thats hockey. At the end of the 2nd period, it was 2-2 and the opposing team was bitching. That brought a smile to my face. I am sure they were worried about the outcome of the game against a team that hasn’t won a game this season.

That game last night really made me realize just how good I play when I don’t care about the outcome. When I am playing for any team that I agree to play for all season, I want to win and I want to do well. Last night, I wanted to play well, but I just didn’t care about the end result. I made more diving saves last night than I have in the previous 4 weeks combined. Maybe it is because I am not puting pressure on myself and as a result, I am not second guessing myself. Who knows. Point is that I should really play like that every game.

Now I get a few nights off before I start it all over again on Sunday. My body is aching a little today so I am glad to be honest. As much as I like the sport, it takes a lot out of me by the time I play my 5th game in a week.
