With the win on Tuesday, the Builders are back in the playoff picture. Sitting in 4th place right now, with 3 games to go so far. We have 2 games against under .500 teams and 1 game against the undefeated team in the league. I am really looking forward to our next games and towards making playoffs. By my calculations, if we win 2 of our next 3 games, we will be in! This is a big feat considering at the midpoint of the season we were 1-2-1-1 which is not the mark of a playoff team thats for sure.
Last night, my ice hockey team was eliminated 8-6. It was a big thing for us to make it to the final 4 teams. I just wish I could have come up with a few more saves to help us win that game. All is not lost though….another ice hockey team made it into the finals and they may need a goalie. I was told last night this was going to be a permanent thing if I wanted it to be that way. So now, I have some choices. Do I stick with the team that I have played with all season or go with this new team? I figure I will play this Spring/Summer with them and see how it goes. I am really happy to be part of this team during the offseason. Ice hockey is so much fun in the summer. Ice times are eariler and while it is sweltering outside, it is nice and cool on the ice.
My other teams are doing well all things considered. I haven’t had the chance to play for Dekleine the last few weeks, but that will change next week. I then will need that next week off from playing with them so I can compete for the championship in my ice hockey league with that other team. I hope I have a few weeks off after that to play with Dekleine for the rest of the season and playoffs. After that, its all up in the air.
My Friday Brass team goes against the 1st place team again tonight. We haven’t had luck in beating them yet, but I think this week is our week.
Its been a week of turnarounds so far.
The Builders may be turning things around with a key win on Tuesday. We still sit one point out of a playoff spot, but we play that team next week. A victory will put us in control of our own destiny. One thing is for sure, and that is that we have to finish strong in the last 4 games of the season. We need to finish at least in 4th place to advance on and right now, I am counting on that happening. I just know this team is going to make it into playoffs.
My ice hockey team also turned it around with a big victory in the playoffs and making it to the final 4 teams with a 7-5 win. Each game is going to be a firefight as we just don’t have the defense to contend with other well balanced teams. As long as my team keeps scoring, the better off we will be because close games will be hard to come by. Next week we play a team with 2 outstanding players on it. The goal is simple….If I keep those two guys off the board then we will win. Let me rephrase, I am going to have to limit their points. We do that and we will be good. Keep in mind we haven’t beaten this team since the beginning of the season when they were without these two guys who are just phenomenal.
My Friday brass team has to keep things rolling tonight. I am certain we will get to the playoffs, but I would like to take 1st place back which will mean we need to win our last 5 games, which is going to be a very tough feat. Tough, but not impossible. We have to beat the team that is so far undefeated thats for sure.
The midwest regionals are going on this weekend in college hockey, and it is the first time in over 8 years I haven’t been covering them. When they have been here in MI, I have been there to provide stories and photos to various publications. This season, I am not going to do it. I am going to play hockey tonight and then go to the Wings game tomorrow. I don’t know if I have officially retired, but my motivation to take pictures and do story writing is declining or pretty much gone. That isn’t a bad thing. Maybe the fire will burn again later…
I played in an annual charity game tonight that resulted in a 4-4 tie. I spent months getting this thing organized, working to get players in the game, and then playing the game was hyped up on its own. At least in my mind. Everyone had fun playing the game, but I felt bad about giving up the 4-1 lead in the 3rd period. Team Teazers just outskated us and out played us in that last period, but I gave up a bad goal. It wasn’t the last goal I gave up, but it was a bad goal because there was no one between me and him. He rifled a shot that hit the far post and went in. I just missed the shot and didn’t play my angles right.
There is part of me that feels badly for everyone who paid money to play in that game. Even though it was all for charity, and the fact they were happy about my play. I just feel like I let them down. Not as bad as last year though when we lost in that shootout. I don’t know. I guess that if I didn’t come out of that a winner I was going to look at it as a failed game. Same result as if I look at just about any game I play.
So now another year has to go by before I get my opportunity to play in that game again. I look forward to it.
Until then, I have playoffs to play this week in ice hockey, and I have rollerhockey teams in the middle of another season. Got to concentrate all the way on those teams and on those games.
Its amazing how one game you can have a great high, and then the next one can be so darn low. On Monday, I played a playoff game for a team that needed a goalie at a moments notice and I played a great game in a 2-1 win. I wouldn’t say it was one of the better games I have played or anything, but I came up big when I needed to. I love playing a big playoff game like that one and it was a do or die one for that team. It really put me in good with that team so if they need another sub, they will call me thats for sure.
The low point happened last night when my Builders team lost 5-1 and it moved our record to 1-2-1-1. Its the worst record we have started at in a long time. I don’t know what to say about it other than we just did not play hungry. I let in a soft goal, but otherwise I played pretty well considering. I don’t know….we just need a fire to be lit under this team. I decided to not concentrate on them but to concentrate on my level of play which could be better thats for sure.
All things considered, its been a good hockey season. I have gotten some good approval ratings from all my teams, including a teams I have been subbing for. Last night, I was told that I was the reason why we won that game 2-1. Last week, I was told that I am a very good goalie and everyone on the team was surprised I wasn’t playing more. Personally, I enjoy hearing all the great things. Sometimes I need a small boost to my confidence like that and I appreciate it thats for sure. I don’t like to blow my own horn though. I know I am a good goalie, but I let my record speak for itself. Especially the way I play in big games.
Tonight, my Dekleine Builders team takes on the defending champions of the division. It will be interesting to see how we play against them.
Is it worth it?
Every year I put on a charity game at Van Andel Arena and every year its the same thing. Trying to get people to commit, pay, and then play. Its 3-4 months of solid planning and its a pain in the ass at times. However, it has a great payoff in the end and a warm fuzzy feeling inside needless to say. With a week and a half left before the game, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Soon the game will be over and done with, and then I can rest again for another 6 months before I start planning this again.
The NHL season is still going strong and I am loving every minute of it. I had the TV on most of the night last night, even though I was doing other things like playing World of Warcraft, browsing the internet, or reading. Still, I can feel the playoffs approaching and they are about a month away. Its the best sport come playoff time by far. I would be very willing to see them reduce the season by about 20 games and start earlier personally, but thats just my .02 cents on that matter.
The next few days, even though rollerhockey is done for the spring break, are going to be busy. I have 2 ice hockey games tonight. Tomorrow I have a late night planned for a upgrade to our VOIP phone system. Friday I am going to the IMAX to see the 300 movie with a bunch of friends. I can’t wait! 🙂
