It was a merry christmas and a good week in hockey

It was a very Merry Christmas indeed. My week in hockey was just as good.

Won on Tuesday in a 7-6 OT thriller and then in ice hockey as well.
Lost on Wednesday to a much more skilled team in our beginner ice hockey league. Still was a fun game to play though considering my team has turned things around in recent weeks and is competitive once again.
Won on Thursday
Won on Friday and moved into first in the division.

4-1 on the week is not bad at all!

This week I only have 2 games so I am looking forward to the short time off. 🙂

Motivation declining

For the first time in a while, I have felt my motivation to play hockey going down. Maybe it is because of the upcoming end of the season already in January. Either that or it could be the weather. It could also be how often I am playing. Right now, I am playing at least 4 times a week! Either way, I have competitive teams and I am already starting to get a little unmotivated about playing.

Tonight I have 2 games, roller at 7 and ice at 10.
Tomorrow I have ice at 10.
Thursday I skate out at 9.
Friday I have roller at 7.

Next week I have roller on Thursday and Friday.

So much for a little time off between the holidays.

I have to find a way to get myself motivated to play. Nothing crushes a team more than an unmotivated goalie thats for sure. It also kills my goals against, but thats beside the point. What am I going to do to solve this problem? My solution is to play less, but what day or days am I going to stop playing? I think I have it narrowed down to Thursday and Friday right now. I drop one or both of those days, my week gets a lot easier.

Its a very hard decision thats for sure.

Hockey thoughts

After winning my last 2 ice hockey games, I am looking forward to playing tonight. With the extra goal support, I feel like I can afford to make a mistake. Before, if I let two goals in, I felt like the game was lost and just lost my confidence. Now, I have confidence through the whole game. Tonight we are going for 3 wins in a row. I just know we will do it.

Last night my Builders team won and I stayed to watch the finals rematch between Who Cares and the Fury. It really wasn’t a contest as Who Cares just killed them. Just watching Who Cares cycle the puck reminded me of what we need to do with the Builders. The Builders need to really work on their passing and chemistry to beat a team like that in the playoffs. I guess we will see what happens.

Next session is going to be a tough decision for me. I have a lot of teams asking me to play for them, but I just can’t bring myself to play for every team. My body isn’t able to keep up as well as it used to, and me playing 5 times in 4 games just isn’t an option. I have some cutting to do thats for sure, I just don’t know what I want to do. Its a tough decision.

BCS thoughts

I am not the biggest college football fan in the world, but I am smart enough to see a broken system like the BCS. Take a look at the whole discussion on who should play the Buckeyes in the championship game. Here you have two teams who deserve to have a shot. Both Florida and Michigan played tough games. Florida had a slight edge in the strength of the season, but Michigan lost to the #1 team by only 3 points. Michigan was the #2 team by a solid 44 points in last weeks poll. Florida was the #2 team by 24 points in the final poll. Thats a pretty big swing from the voters.

This article talks about how Michigan got screwed. Probably one of the best I have read that isn’t from a MI news source.

The major injustice here are the voters. These are the voters who put UofM down just because they didn’t want to see a rematch. After Michigan lost, the voters spent the next two weeks looking for excuses and reasons to avoid a rematch. The voters didn’t vote for Florida, they voted against a rematch. Further proof this “BCS” process is a total waste of time. Since the BCS was put in place, I have seen a lot of teams get shafted badly for one reason or another. This was just another season.

The only way to fix this problem is a playoff, but I don’t think that will happen. Too many coaches and universities already bitch about how many games they have to play in a season. Why not a few more? Take a few of these crappy bowl games that people don’t watch and make them playoff games. You have 32 bowl games this year. Take the top 8 teams and make a playoff out of it starting on the 19th of December. Have them play one game a week and if you lose, you are done. That is only 7 games! You will still have a ton of bowl games available. I just doubt the teams that finish 7-5 will be awarded a bowl, which is fine by me. If you want to go to a bowl game, you should be AT LEAST .750 in the win percentage. We can save that argument for another time though.

You implement a small playoff system….then you have a clear cut champion. Thats what you have in the rest of the sports world.

It is my hope that the BCS falls flat on its face every year. This year will be the same thing I hope. I hope that Florida gets killed and Michigan kills USC. Then, you will have a another controversary.

Maybe then they will look at a playoff system.
