Shelled

Last night was my first game with my new ice hockey team and we got off to a rocky start. The other team had been playing together for a long time and it showed as they cruised to a 8-0 win. The other goalie had about 3 shots on him while I faced well over 30. First off, I am not upset with my team. I am more upset with my performance. In the past, I haven’t played the puck due to the fact that I didn’t want to make a mistake. Well, I played the puck more in this game than I have in a while. I am going to have to take some chances and play the puck every now and then. A majority of the goals they scored on me were screened shots and rebounds. They got one from the top of the left circle that I just plain missed. I could go on and on, but the point was that I was under siege for most of the game.

This season is going to be a good time for me to work on my technique. I have to cover the puck more than I have in the past. No more uncontrolled rebounds. I also have to realize that playing mistake free is going to be impossible. I can’t get into the frame of mind where I deflate myself if I make a mistake. This team is going to rely upon me to play solid and I am going to deliver.
