A look of things to come

Monday 2/2/04 – Stick Heads vrs Golden Eagles
After much waiting, the night finally arrived. The Stick Heads are back in action again and I was excited. This new group contains almost every member from the past teams and even incorporates a new face or two. After playing my first game with them, I can already tell you it will be a fun season. The Stick Heads won in a very close contest by a 5-4 score.

1 – Faceoff win and a shot from the point went off someone and popped in the air. I lost sight of it, and it went just under the bar behind me. Just one of those fluke goals.

2 – Centering pass that one of my defenseman kicked in. Bad break.

3 – Centering pass that a forward one timed in the slot. The shot did go five hole on me, and that much I regret. Otherwise, there wasn’t a soul on this person.

4 – A nice deflection. With about 4-5 people in front of me, a shot from the point went off one or two people and then got past me. I was centered to the shot, but the deflection didn’t help matters.

Overall, I was pleased with my performance. If the Stick Heads can stay out of the box (8 penalties in the game), then we should be competitive. The big question is, will we be good enough to qualify for the playoffs or make a run for the championship? Time will tell.

Tonight is my big coaching debut! I have never coached kids hockey before, but I have wanted to give it a try. Tonight I will get my shot. 🙂

The hockey dads are what scare me the most actually. I am going to give the kids all equal time and see what happens. I think it will be fun. 🙂

As a joke, I asked my wife if I could carry my graphite goalie stick to the bench and say, “The Beatings Will Continue Until Goals are Scored” to the kids. My wife said no. 🙂
